This is us.…and how we meet

The thing I love most about life is when you realize that one simple decision set the stage for your entire life. Good or bad. But let’s focus on the good for now.

I made a decision about 5 years ago when I was dating someone else to join that now debunked social media website Myspace. That one decision changed the entire course of my life.

Myspace is how I met my husband…now before you get all Judgey-McJudgerson on me hear me out. It’s not quite as trashy or desperate as it sounds (Well at least I hope it isn’t)

So I made this decision to join MySpace and that’s how this all started.

It was October 19, 2006 and I was just a few short hours away from being 19. I was at the highest point in my life at this time. I had a really great job for a 19 year old (Office manager for a construction company which translated into a fantastic paycheck) I had just bought my first car. A brand new Scion TC that made me feel cool and although I was single I was “juggling” (but certainly not in a trashy way) about 5 different guys at the time, which again made me feel kind of cool.

So I receive this email message from Shawn asking me if I was the same girl that had attend the same private school & church he had years before. Of course I was and I in turn asked if he was the same boy from the big family at this same school & church, which he was.

I was immediately struck by how cute he was and with a new found confidence my new car had allotted me I decided to send a bunch of flirty messages back & forth (which really wasn’t me). I think that first night we exchanged dozens of emails for a good 3 hours and before going to bed that night I remember thinking “He’s going to be important”

At the time I didn’t completely understand in what capacity. Because of what he did for a living I thought maybe he would help me make it into the music industry or maybe he would be just another guy I would add to my “growing” list of suitors and maybe he would put me on a path to that one. But I knew this was someone I needed to pay attention to.

A few days later I received what seemed to me like a long rambling email from him about how people change and how I seemed to be an incredible person, etc. something, something, something. I was a little confused by the whole thing and wasn’t sure how to respond so I ignored it for about a week until I could come up with something just as equally astute and profound. I never did come up with anything but I felt like the clock was ticking and so I decided to just responded with something silly like “Wow, don’t know what to say” and from there we begin…

I’ll stop here, because this post is already getting longer then you probably want to read and kudos for making it all the way to the bottom.

*If you are interested in linking up your “This is us” story just email me (beforethebabywakes {at} gmail dot com) the perma-link to your intro post (like my intro post) if you choose to spread it out like me or the perma-link to the complete story and I’ll post all the links from all the participants after I complete my “series” hopefully by Monday.

My story is pretty similar to this one. Myspace started it all. Ha! That sentence is what started it for me too. This is really cute.
