J.Crew is my bitch
I’m a big shopper. Like big time. Like when I get closer to a mall or boutique my heart kinda beats a little faster. I get a little weak in the knees. I even tend to leave my 2-year-old stranded in his stroller in the middle of a store so I can grab one more item.
Now where’s the mom of the year award??
I just really love to shop. And as my husband can attest I’m not a “bargain hunter”. I don’t shop the summer clearance in the fall to stock up for next year & I don’t compare prices. I just shop.
There are however some stores that I lust over and never buy much unless it’s on sale. Can anyone take a guess what one of those stores are?
If you guessed J.Crew you get a prize.
They have such great clothes, but I’m not always into paying $200 for a cardigan.
But as I flipped through this months catalog I noticed that J.Crew isn’t necessarily selling something I can’t get at Gap cheaper. Yes, the quality is probably better, but I’m not a big picture shopper. I see what it is for the moment. And when I realized that J.Crew was a glorified Gap I realized that what really makes J.Crew awesome is styling. They are great at pulling looks together and every season their catalog pages are pinned up on my inspiration board.
Now that I know this I look at how I can re-create a J.Crew look for a lot less. So thus was born…
J.Crew is my bitch.
Because I’m going to make that little bitch get down on her knees and beg me to come into that store. Because I know that I can re-create that fantastic look on page 45 with a lot less.
So on Friday’s I’m going to showcase my J.Crew is my bitch…look for less. And no not everything will be a J.Crew inspired look.
First up:
J.Crew look = $1,178.50
3. Merino Studded Cardigan $148
5. Selvedge chambray shirt $98
J.Crew is my bitch look =$321.97
3. Chambray pocket shirt $39.99
4. Leggy denim jean $69.50 I kept the pants from J.Crew because it’s a good price for a good quality Jegging. I think when you’re wearing something body-hugging you want a good quality so you don’t look like a sausage squeezed in them.
5. Bubbling with Beauty Cardigan $42.99
My look is not an exact replica. But it’s pretty close. When you’re re-creating a look for less or an inspiration look you’re not going to always be able to get it on point every single time. So pay attention to what attracts you to the look and focus on that. In this look I loved the colors & the proportions of the jacket & the length of the cardigan underneath. The hardest part of this look was the jacket. I found a bunch of tweed cropped jackets, but none with the bluish hues that I wanted. So the one from Gap kept the colors & the proportion of the jacket & bonus the material looks like tweed.
And also if this is a look you are thinking of doing for fall you can also check Etsy, Ebay and your local thrift stores for a similar jacket style.
So what do you think? Is it something you’d wear?
Would you like to see me make some other stores my bitch? Got any suggestions for who & what?

I love this! I very much AM a bargain shopper, but that doesn’t mean I want to sacrifice style to save money. Although, let’s face it, my style could really use some help…

I saw “J. Crew is my Bitch” and I was sold. From one “force of nature” shopper to another, VERY impressive work! Have you discovered Crew Cuts yet? Yes…you too can spend the same amount on clothes for your kids as you do on yourself ONLY to have them wear it for a season. Woo Hoo!

Yes! I’ve seen CrewCuts too and I’ll admit when I first had my son I was all “Oh I want to dress him all these awesome brands” now that I turn around every 3 months and he’s grown taller and the pants are high waters or the shirts have permanent stains on them I’m glad I didn’t buy expensive stuff because I’d be pissed. The most expensive I’ll go with him is Gap. But Crewcuts does have adorable things, but again $100 for a kids sweater?!
