FAQ & a glossary of terms

Why were you at Bible School at 16?

I was homeschooled from grades 3 until I graduated. The reason for this was driven by my parents strict religious beliefs at the time. They believed that sending us to public school would expose us to things that they felt we did not need to be exposed too (thank God they don’t believe that anymore). The church that I attended for about 10 years was a strong supporter of homeschooling and every family with the exception of maybe 2 or 3 homeschooled.

As I got older I started hanging out with the kids that were about 3 years older than I was. When they started graduating I started to feel like the baby AND I was bored. I asked my parents if I could drop out, they said no & so I decided to spend two straight years schooling year round. I also did this while working for my Dad at his Real Estate firm. I would wake up at 5 AM & do two subjects & in between making phone calls to mortgage companies I would finish the other two.

It sounds like a lot but I thrive when I am put under time constraints & enjoyed it.

The summer before I turned 16 I finished school & graduated. I was obviously too young to attend a regular university so I decided I would delay that & attend the Bible school. They accepted me & the rest is Bible school drop out history.

UPDATED: Why do I live with my parents? (as of April 2011 we no longer live with my parents, we now live in Los Angeles, CA)

In 2009 my husband discovered this kid named Cody Simpson on YouTube. Cody flew to America and worked with my husband in his studio for two weeks writing & recording music. This was in September. By January a chance link on a Justin Bieber fan page sent Cody’s internet stardom to well, the stars. And we took a week and met with almost every record label. By mid-January we had a record deal offer from Atlantic Records. At the same time we found out our Landlord was selling his house and our lease would be up in March. It was also around this time that Shawn was needing to be in LA full time and we decided that instead of signing another lease here in Maryland only to have to break it in February/April to go to LA we would stay with my parents for 3 months while the deal was finalized and then move to LA. Within that time Shawn took a lot of 3 week trips to LA and it was determined we might not need to move full time anyway and we would just kind of sit in a holding pattern until June. June came & went and mini-trips to finish the album we’re done. In April of 2011 we decided it was time to get to LA. The amount of time we were being separated started to add up & we felt we needed to be together. Our original plan was to only be here 3-6 months, but as it stands we are here for the long haul.

Are we doing this because we are Teen Mom 2 rejects?

No. I always hate that people will think that’s why we are doing this. But our life is so in flux right now. I feel that we have been given such an awesome opportunity and I want to be able to capitalize on this before the industry closes the door on us. Translation. I want us/Shawn to be able to jump and be able to go without worrying about anything holding us back. Because if he can’t go, someone else will. And he’ll be back to burying dead people. (I’ll explain in a future post. Don’t worry.)
