somewhat a man
I grew this little thing inside of me for 9 months.
And I grew this little thing inside of me for 9 months, who had a tiny little penis that was growing inside of my uterus.
And I grew this little thing inside of me for 9 months, who had a tiny little penis that was growing inside of my uterus that turned into a little person.
And this little person who grew inside of me for 9 months who also had a tiny little penis that grew inside of my uterus has turned into this boy.
And this boy will one day walk up to your door step. Ring your bell and ask to see your daughter.
And I hope that when you open the door to this little boy who is standing on your steps waiting to see your daughter that you see the blood sweat & tears that were put into this little boy, who is no longer a little boy, but a big boy. Somewhat of a man.
And when you invite this no longer little boy who is now somewhat of a man into your home that you see a respectful somewhat man.
And when this little boy who is now somewhat of a man sits on your couch and you offer him lemonade I hope he responds with a “Yes Ma’am”
And when this little boy who is now somewhat of a man sees your husband walk into the living room I hope that this somewhat of a man, no longer little boy stands to greet your husband with a firm handshake.
And when you & your husband sit back down on your couch while my not so little boy who is now somewhat of a man sits across from you and you begin to ask him questions I hope that he looks you in your eyes while he speaks.
And when you & your husband ask this little boy who is now somewhat of a man what time your daughter will be coming back home I hope that he responds with “Not a minute past 10 sir”
And when your not so little girl who is now somewhat a woman comes down the steps to see my not so little boy who is now somewhat of a man I hope that you feel the adoration that my not so little boy has for your not so little girl.
And when the two of our not so little children who are somewhat adults exchange familiar smiles & walk out of your home I hope you will feel comfort in knowing that your little girl who is now somewhat of a women can put her heart safely into the hands of my little boy who is now somewhat of a man
And when the days past, and the phone calls grow longer I hope that my little boy who is now somewhat of a man will never miss an opportunity to tell your little girl who is now somewhat a woman how special she is.
And if the end comes I hope that my little boy who is now somewhat of a man will hand back your little girls heart completely in tact.
And because this mom here remembers all to well how it hurt when someone else’s little boy that was somewhat of a man would hurt her she has spent her days and her hours teaching her little boy who is now somewhat of a man to be kind, gracious, respectful, and caring.
And so that one day when he does come calling you all will feel safe.

This is so sweet! It’s hard to believe these little kiddos I see every day will someday be adults. Time passes far too quickly! Thanks for sharing this.
Visiting from SITS, by the way

I think this might be my favorite post of yours so far.
Summed it up PERFECTLY. I may not have a boy, but those wishes, that sweat and tears, they are very real and I FELT IT.

Such a sweet post. I rarely think of things this way. I’m more of the girls-are-interlopers-stealing-my-babies-from-me. But, that’s because it’s true and because I might be slightly imbalanced. Just slightly.

Awesome post. As the mother of a couple of sons, I definitely want them to become wonderful men. They’re well on their way…and I love the phrase “somewhat a man” because it’s a perfect description of these male humans who are not little boys anymore, but not quite full grown either.
