Teen Mom Castoff?

I can get a little sensitive about my age sometimes. I feel like I need to constantly assure people that I wasn’t some high-school drop out who got knocked up & still lived with her parents up until a few weeks ago.

Maybe if you have been hanging around here long enough you {should} know this is not the case. Quite the opposite.

I mean hell. I’m a damn prodigy.

Graduated at 15.

Top of my class {regardless of the fact I was home schooled}

All while holding down a 32 hour a week job {for my father. But trust me. It was work.}

Youngest kid on Bible School campus {ok so what I almost got kicked out}

Making close to $40K a year by the time I was 18.

Office manager of a very successful construction company.

But then I met Shawn & got knocked up twice. And the list ends there. But still.

A damn prodigy I tell you.

So I might feel a little bit like Jenelle when I tell you this.

I have just recently started raising my son on my own.

Wait.

Hear me out.

I have a lot of family. And a lot of family means a lot of help. Like a lot.

And since Phoenix was 3 months old we have always lived no more than 10 minutes from my family. And of course when he was 18 months old we lived about 10 feet away.

Standing over-night visits every weekend & all day Sunday church & dinner a good 10 hours of babysitting there. And that was all just while living on our own.

And than last year happened & the help we got magnified & we pretty much had live in baby nurses. People begging us to watch him, take him, feed him, play with him, harasses them. You name we got it.

So what could we do?

We could spend all day Saturday watching movies while Phoenix ran from one bedroom to the next. We could take 2 hour walks around the neighborhood. Random date nights whenever we wanted. Sleep in. Literally whatever we wanted.

During the week we were “on” from 8 until about 3 when the first group got home from school. After that more hands willingly taking him to do whatever.

And I think its fair to say that while we had all of this help we didn’t just completely forget we were parents. I never wanted my family to feel like we took advantage of them & their willingness to help so if we did spend all day in bed watching movies, reading, working, etc I’d keep the door open to hear if he needed me. I’d send Shawn barreling down the steps if he started one of his earth shattering bust yo’ ear drum screams so my family didn’t have to deal. I think {and mom in the comments you correct me if I’m wrong} we did a good job of keeping up our own responsibilities.

But.

OH.MY.GOD.

OH.MY.GOD.

OH.MY.GOD.

Is it 3 yet?

To be continued…..

    I just posted that comment on the wrong post. My bad… but nonetheless – love the teen prodigy post as well. Graduated at 15?! Sheesh, girl.

    Love your posts. They keep me curious to know more! I bet Cali is a different beast than MD. We’ve moved to new states three times and are in Phx now… each one is a little different, but it’s interesting.
