Dating Eminem Style

I was driving down the 101 on Friday windows down, sunglasses perched on my nose, & the music blaring. One of my favorite anthems came on & I immediately thought about the time I tried to land a guy using these lyrics.

You better lose yourself in the music, the moment
You own it, you better never let it go
You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow
This opportunity comes once in a lifetime you better

I was 18 & bored out of my mind. I had gone with my parents to {something*} & I met a friend of the family. I immediately thought he was really good looking & radar clicked on. Leaving that night I did something I never, ever, ever did. I gave him my business card {I totally had business cards at 18 because I was rocking the socks off a local construction company as a office manager. I was all kinds of legit} & told him to call me so we could hang. He seemed interested enough & I left being super proud of myself for making the first move {a feeling that would continue the remainder of Summer & into fall & was the same “high” I was flying on when I met Shawn.

Over the next few weeks we would exchange very, very, very short telephone calls. He seemed to be the King of calling to say hi & after hearing my reply would talk about how busy he was & that he would call me back. Our phone calls were never over 5 minutes. After trying to unsuccessfully set up times to see each other {he lived out of town**} & me finally saying to him “Listen why don’t you call me when you actually want to talk” I tried to move on & started talking to other guys {it was my summer of “love”}.

Until one Sunday night {after another of my admirers made the 4 hour drive to me see left} my AIM list went all kinds of bing, bang, & buzz. He was online.

In order to not appear too desperate {which clearly I was} I left my room for about 10 minutes so I wouldn’t be tempted to flood his screen with random messages. When I came back I was pleased to see a few “Hey, hi, you there?” type of stuff. I started chatting.

But as soon as I started chatting all I got back were a bunch of  8-)  :-) it was annoying. But then I remembered these words.

You better lose yourself in the music, the moment
You own it, you better never let it go
You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow
This opportunity comes once in a lifetime you better

And I thought ok. This is it.

I hit Google up & pulled the lyrics up, did a quick copy & paste. Held my breathe & started typing something like:

“I know this really weird & all, but I really, really like you. And……You better lose yourself in the music, the momentYou own it, you better never let it goYou only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow This opportunity comes once in a lifetime you better

As I’m sure you can imagine. He never responded. And I died of embarrassment.

I saw him only one other time after that almost a year to the day I first met him. This time with a fiance in toe & a secret pregnancy. And then a week or two later, he actually called me. But I didn’t answer.

But PS. I used a similar tactic with Shawn & here we are 5 year later. I guess it’s because he gets music

*I don’t want to say specifically where I met this person because if the one IRL friend I know realizes who I’m talking about I will die of embarrassment.

**I probably gave it away.

lol…my goodness – that’s interesting. I can imagine a guy doing this but not a female. I would probably laugh out loud if I guy came up to me quoting lyrics.

Have you ever asked your husband if these lines won him over? I’m going to say it was you personality and style.

    @Keia,
I know I was sooooo lame. I didn’t use this exact song when I met my husband but we met during Myspace age (on sort on Myspace)& I put a song on my profile & that locked him. LOL
