The Familymoon

Hows this for a shocking twist, two blog post in the same week & IN A ROW?! Its the second coming of Jesus up in here people.  But its true here I am back & ready to tell you how our recent “familymoon” went.

You’ve heard of a honeymoon & you’ve heard of a babymoon, but there’s a new kid on the block. The Familymoon. Also probably widely known as the Family Vacation.

Way back when I was pregnant with Phoenix-which honestly feels like an eternity I heard the term babymoon bouncing around on The Bump & I really wanted to go on one but unless we could pay for the hotel, airfare or gas, & activities in a song & dance routine it wasn’t going to happen.

This time around however with more change jingling in our pocket I knew we would have to go on one. And that was the plan, but I didn’t know when we would go. Shawn goes through phases where he works like a normal person. Home by 6ish, off on the weekends, with the occasional mid-week break. But since May he has been working like a mad person. Honest to God. And to top that off we have had house guest out the wazoo in our 930 sq foot 2 bedroom apartment. Some days he’s home well past midnight or well past 3 AM & disappears even on the weekends. This makes for a very frustrated & sometimes {ok often times} and angry pregnant wife.  But I know he’s really been trying to kick ass on the work schedule so that when the baby comes he has more downtime- at least I hope that’s his plan.

We talked about going someplace just the two of us in June but again it didn’t work it. I was starting to get really bummed out about the whole thing until a surprise meeting in San Francisco presented itself. So Thursday morning the 3 of us packed up clothes & an Easter basket of Transformers & hit the road.

The original idea of course was to go away just the two of us but three reasons had me change this to a familymoon. 1. Shawn’s intense work schedule has also kept him away from Phoenix for the last several weeks. 2. Because we have family literally around the corner we are incredibly blessed to get a lot of time just the two of us. And 3. We are in the last weeks of being just 3 & that part of course has me incredibly excited, but also a little sad.

The 3 of us are like little buddies, best friends. Phoenix has been an only child for 4 years now. That creates a lot of opportunities to be a very spoiled little kid- but also creates a lot of special moments, & great memories, and tons of attention. I worry a lot if he will feel the loss of us as we have been or If he’ll resent his little brother. In preparing for baby he has been excellent. He kisses my belly all day, he talks to the baby, & tells what he plans on doing to help out or protect the baby- all unprompted by us. But only time will tell how he will actually handle everything.

I won’t bore you with every single detail from our trip…instead I’ll just photo overload you.
