I know that by now everyone has probably read the article by Allison Tate that made Mom’s everywhere photobomb every picture they possibly could with their children.
Until I read this article I was suffering under the same thing as the writer. Always behind the camera, always shouting “Say cheese! Look here! Smile cute!” but never actually carrying those actions out myself.
I look back during the early days of Phoenix’s life & I don’t often see me. I see him with his Dad, I see him with aunts, uncles, cousins, & teddy bears. But hardly any with me. Mom.
When Caspian was born I made a conscious decision to make sure I appeared in pictures {and I particularly wanted breastfeeding pictures since I had none with Phoenix} but after snapping & reviewing I always hit delete. My heavy bags appeared & the muffin top was crowning. My hair was frizzy, my shirt had food on it, my boobs too exposed.
But after I read this article I knew I had to stop. One day I’m going to want to know what life was like & reading words in a diary or on a blog aren’t going to be the same. I want to see how our smiles were the same. I want to be able to show them that YES you use to hug me. YES you use to let me kiss you. I want to see me even with those bags because one long day from now the bags won’t be there, but a daughter will be or a son will be there with their own bags, their own love handles & I want them to see that they aren’t alone.
Here are several photos from the last two weeks, I encourage you to jump in every picture you can with your kids no matter what. Link up your own post in the comments.

These are gorgeous. Photos have been a big discussion at our home.
Lukus and I don’t know many people in Chicago and with me on bedrest we haven’t been out doing anything fun. So I have very few photos of me and my pregnant belly.
My mom was here last week and took a million photos of me. Yes, some weren’t exactly flattering. But my mom was right- I was going to want these some day….
Now we just need to make some decisions about baby’s first photos- NICU or not……

Those photos are great =) It is so hard to get in front of the camera when you’re usually the one taking the photos.
so so so hard indeed.

I agree. I think pictures help us recapture lost moments the way just words cannot. So document all those moments, the small, the big, everything. Because those pictures are what will trigger memories and conversations and help you look back and remember the good times.

I totally agree. I think the pictures go the way of a lot of things in the hectic mom life- taking care of everyone else and making sure their every move is documented, while pushing ourselves to the background. You’ve put me on a mission to get in the pic. Thanks!
