Christmas Countdown Tutorial
I’m sure all of you moms out there deal with the constant “How many more days…” from your kids for any exciting activity. When we we’re waiting on Caspian, Phoenix would ask every day, several times a day how many more days until Caspian was set to arrive. When we had about 90 days to go we made a paper chain countdown & that certainly helped cut down on the incessant asking.
Of course Christmas is just under a month away & the incessant “How many more days until Christmas has started”. A few months ago I saw this super cute advent calendar on Pinterest but couldn’t find the instructions for it so I decided to make it on my own.
We never did an advent calendar growing up so I don’t know exactly how they work. But from what I gather every day you open a new little gift until Christmas Eve. However, my child has an abundance of toys already & with Christmas coming he literally needs nothing else except maybe socks. So instead of doing an advent calendar with gifts I decided to do a Christmas Activity Countdown instead.
What you need:
Piece of wood
White paint or spray paint
24 clothes pins
Red & White glitter
Number & Alphabet Stamps & black stamp pad
Brown paper (I used bags I had from the grocery store)
Christmas labels (optional)
The glitter glue is by Queen Martha Stewart & had a little brush that came with it. I just brushed the glue onto the clothes pin & placed the clothes pin down into a dish of glitter. Obviosuly easier than pouring the glitter on to the pin.
Also when it came to making the activity tags I wanted everything to look kind of oldish & not perfect so instead of hole punching a perfect hole into the paper I used the tip of the knife to make a little hole.
It’s not perfect but I didn’t want it to be perfect. But I really like it & I hope this is fun for Phoenix. In case you couldn’t tell I am not a craft blogger & have zero experience with tutorial writing so if you have any questions leave them in the comments.
Here are the some of the activities that I have.
1. Go ice skating
2. Make a ginerbread house
3. Go see Santa
4. Pick out Christmas Tree
5. Watch a Christmas Movie
6. Read a Christmas book
7. Go see a light show
8. Go ice skating
9. Make cookies for neighbors. – Phoenix has made a lot of friends with the elderly people in our complex & they all now & love him.
10. School Christmas Program
11. Make gifts for friends.
12. Take cans to church- We are doing this 4 times for each Sunday in December
13. Make a Christmas craft
14. Build a snowman- This is going to be my favorite. We have no snow here in Southern California but I am determined via Pinterest to find some crafty alternatives for Phoenix to experience a Christmas/Winter rite of passage.
What are something Christmas/Winter themed activities your family does?
