The Cool Girls Guide To HER Christmas Wish List

Tuesday, December 11th, 2012
I love when a blogger writes a “Favorites Things” list or does a gift guide. I often find some great products, new brands & little known blogs to add to my growing collection of everything. Below is MY gift guide to help you out with your own Christmas list or suggestions for other people. Some of these things I have & think you should too & some of them I just want.

1. High-Top Wedge Sneakers- After I spied these on the @targetdoesitagain IG feed I became obsessed! Target sold out of all of the Selma’s but I ended up getting a silver pair & black/gold pair from Ideeli. ASOS also has several that I love. These kicks are super comfy.

2. Slouchy Beanie- I’m in love with the 90′s again & I love the grungy laid back look of my black beanie that I picked up for $5 at H&M. Insta cool & bad hair day coverage too.

3. Books!- I’ve read some great books this year. My favorites were by Gillian Flynn. Dark Places, Sharp Objects, & Gone Girl. Her books are so dark & twisty that she has me wondering if she isn’t a little dark & twisty herself.

4. Tea for One Brewing Set- At the end of my pregnancy I started listening to hypno tapes & drinking chamomile tea at night & now I have developed a love for tea. This modern tea set is cute & I want it in every single color.

5.  One Piece- Don’t hate me. But I watch the Kardashians & last season Kourtney had one of these on but I didn’t love it until I saw a guy on 4th of July in an American Flag one. I became obsessed with finding it. But with an almost $300 price tag I may pass on the original. But I love this knockoff from BooHoo. And yes I plan on wearing this in the public.

6. Riding boots, combat boots, or motorcycle boots- I am still on the hunt for the exact right ones. I have a bunch of ShoeMint & Sole Society credits to use so the combat & motorcycle’s will be coming from there. And for a riding boot I really like these DV by Dolce Vita from Nordstroms.

7. DSLR Camera- After 2 years lusting & debating over the necessity of the Canon Rebel T3i my husband finally broke down & bought it. And let me tell you it’s the most intimidating electronic ever! But I love the few pictures we have taken with it. All the photos from my recent tutorial were done with this camera how do they look?

8. Cuisnart Griddler- I am dying for this! I bought a cheapie Sunbeam one that was on sale at Target a few weeks ago. I wasn’t planning on buying one, but this was on ridic sale & I just grabbed it. But after using it a few dozen times I realize the main feature I need…removable & dishwasher safe plates! When I saw the commercial for this during last weeks 90210 I was drooling!

9. Oxblood bag- For my birthday my husband got me a gorgeous patent leather oxblood bag from Coach. The color is the it color for the season & I particularly love the shiny factor of this bag & the gold hardware.

10. Name Plate Necklace- I have been searching for uh, about 4 years for the perfect Mommy necklace. I love the look with the full names right on display & the layered look with the two different length chains. These won’t be here in time for Christmas but you can still order them & have Christmas in January!

And bonus because I’ve been so good this year!

11. 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep. No explanation needed.

So that’s my holiday gift guide! What’s on your list?

Top 10 Favorite Baby Products

Thursday, December 6th, 2012

1. Aden + Anais Blankets- I didn’t have these blankets with Phoenix but I should have because I love them. They are so soft that I want to sew 100 of them together to make my own. I prefer them over these over the SwaddleMe ones. I only bought one of those & Caspian has outgrown it already & I don’t see the point of continuing to size up on a 1 use blanket. The best baby products are the ones that can do double duty. I also bought the A&A security blanket for Caspian as well & this is equally as soft. I have both the Muslin & the Bamboo swaddles. Both are soft but the bamboo is ah-mazing.

2. MamaRoo by 4Moms- I knew I wanted this swing simply because of the cool design of it. I love the modern look, but I also love that portability. Admittedly Caspian didn’t like the swing at first-but he didn’t like anything. Now he loves it & I catch him batting at the toy balls above him every time he’s in it. I think the only downside to this swing though is the toy mobile. I wish that it would move on its own or they offered different toys. Maybe something with a mirror because Cas is quite the narcissist.

3. UppaBaby Vista- I love the look of a pram stroller, but they aren’t very practical so I knew I wanted something with a bassinet. Not able to convince my husband that I needed the Bugaboo Missoni I eventually fell in love with the Vista. We haven’t used the toddler seat yet, but the bassinet is comfortable enough to keep him sleep 4 plus hours at the mall & looks amazing. Every time I use it I have people coming up and asking me who makes my stroller. Also remember I said baby products that do double duty are always a win? The bassinet is the perfect “grocery cart” to get all the stuff from the car to the house.

4. The 90-Minute Baby Sleep Program-I could write a hundred blog post about how much I love this book. My midwife told me about it at my 1 week PP checkup. She gave me the gist of the book-which is a baby has 90 minute cycle of awakeness. 90 minutes from waking up baby is ready to go back to sleep. I started practicing that the minute she left & it worked. I bought the book but it basically just reiterated that. Caspian has been on this program now since week 1 & at the 45/50 minute mark he is ready to be swaddled & bounced to sleep. Honestly if you don’t buy anything else I recommend, buy this. It will save your life. Caspian is an excellent sleeper during the day & I owe it all to this book.

5. Puj Tub- We don’t have a lot of room in this tiny apartment so I love this tub. I can hang it on the back of the door in the bathroom or store it under the bed! I’m not sure though how much longer I will get out of it because Caspian already seems to be squished in it. I’m thinking of getting this to use in a few more weeks.

6. Timi & Leslie Casey Messenger Diaper Bag- I bought this on Gilt a few weeks after having Caspian. It’s a cross-body bag that looks like a briefcase. I don’t carry a ton of stuff in my diaper bag. I learned early on with Phoenix that you don’t need that much stuff. This bag is big enough for MY essentials without being too big.

7. Fisher Price Zen Bassinet- Again not a lot of space in our place so we actually do not have a crib. I needed a bassinet with the largest weight limit on it and after searching for the entire 9 months this one was the best & the least ugliest. It has the largest weight capacity I could find plus I loved the gliding motion.

8. Moby Wrap- I loved my Moby Wrap with Phoenix so I knew I’d be using that again this time around. I like using the Moby at home & for longish walks because it’s comfortable. Caspian sleeps in it very well (I can also take an awkward positioned nap while he’s in it too) & nursing in it is easy too.

9. Baby Bjorn Carrier- Also purchased from Gilt is my On-The-Go carrier. It’s a lot easier to put on than the Moby which is why I like it for being out. Caspian isn’t always the best when he has to be put down so I use this a lot like at the mall once he’s had enough of the stroller or for quick trips to the store.

10. Baby Connect Activity Log App- I read about this app on another blog while I was pregnant & downloaded knowing that I would need it. It’s the perfect companion to the sleep training. Its hard to always stay on top of the clock or remember when he woke up or ate last so whenever I can’t remember what’s happened during the day I refer to my app. If I’ve noticed that for a few days Caspian has been especially cranky I check to see how many hours of sleep he’s gotten. Usually is at the lower end I start his sleep cycle earlier & that helps fixes it {usually} but none of this would be possible without this app. Best $4.99 & its available on both Android & the iPhone.

Do you have any favorite newborn/baby products that didn’t make the list?

Doesn’t it look like I’m a pageant girl like I’m all

“For peace and Iraq and eduction such as Iraq for the such as is of America. Such as Iraq and peace.”

This picture makes me look like I have a shelf butt. I don’t its the way I’m standing.

Actually I don’t have much of a butt. It’s totally flat :-(

I really like the layering of necklaces right now and can’t get enough of this fake gold stuff.

Let me tell you a story about these pants. Back some time ago I watched an episode of Friends. The one with Susan Sarandon? Do you remember when Monica comes into Joey’s apartment screaming for Susan’s character to smack her in the face?

Well she has on these fantastic fitted camouflage pants and I have wanted them ever since and when I saw these on Gilt I sent them right to my shopping cart.

And I love love love them. They are really comfy and fit really good. They are a little long (as are most pants on me) and by accident while buckling up the shoes I buckled the pants under but liked how they looked.

My other thing is why is there a Pinkberry in Kuwait but not one in Maryland. Uh hello? I had the best Mango yogurt with coconut, chocolate chips, waffle cookie, strawberries, and pineapples. So yummy!

Make sure you come back Friday because I have a surprise “So this is what I wore…” guest. You do not want to miss him this!

So this is what I wore…to Susie Cakes

Mia Medieval Black Suede bootie from Ideeli also worn as part of my Dirty Peg Bundy look

Mossimo Sunglasses from Target

Long green glass bead necklace from my Grandma

Black & Brass chandelier earrings from Forever21

Bag of cupcakes from Susie Cakes

I am a big cupcake fan. Like big. And I’ve heard of Sprinkles out here in LA and so I wanted to try them. But Susie Cakes was recommended and I am completely and utterly in love.

Magnolia’s Bakery in NY used to be our thing and as good as they are they can be very, very rich. But Susie Cakes is the perfect blend of richness. We got a red velvet, lemon, coconut, and chocolate. We also had a slice of confetti cake (Do not worry. We did not eat all in one sitting. We actually only ate the lemon & coconut cupcake and gave his manager the other two) and it was soooo delicious! We leave Thursday and you better believe I will making a trip back.

So this is what I wore…Santa Monica Pier. Among others.

Friday, September 17th, 2010

There’s a place off Ocean Avenue,
Where I used to sit and talk with you,
We were both 16 and it felt so right,
Sleeping all day, staying up all -
Night,
Staying up all night.

If I could find you now
Things would get better,
We could leave this town,
And Run forever,
Let your waves crash down on me
And take me away, yeah yeah.

Whenever I think about LA I always think about the palm trees, sandy beaches, and warm, warm weather. Apparently this is not always the case. Because at night it drops to like 65. And yesterday was particularly chilly, cloudy & windy. I originally had on this denim vest with the dress, but we went to the Santa Monica Pier for lunch and Shawn had his button down in the backseat so threw that on and knotted the ends like I saw Maegan do recently.

And I swear I did brush my hair but the windy just kept whipping it!

When we lost our camera during my drunken stupor last weekend we bought a new one (the Sony DSC-W330 ) and we are still figuring out how to use  it and Shawn thinks these pictures are very great because of their “artistic” flair. I wouldn’t usually use these but I love this outfit!

1. When it comes to outfit posts on your own blog, be honest are they what you actually wore that day?

Yes! It is actually what I wore for that day….but notice that unlike other Fashion Bloggers I don’t usually post more than one outfit a week. Why? Because I have a 2 yro and we don’t do much.

2. For a fashion blogger, working in a corporate environment can be tricky. How do you mesh your day job with your personal style choices?

Well since my day job consist of remembering to pop a 2 year old on a pot every 30 minutes, making breakfast, lunch, snack, snack and begging him to eat dinner, and keeping him from kicking the dog its hard to stay “trendy”. So my “corporate attire” is lounge pants on a tank top and on a good day a romper, jumper or maxi dress.

3. When you get dressed in the morning, do you think what should I wear to work or what should I wear for the blog?

When I do need to get dressed to go outside of the house I always ask myself “Who do I want to be that day?” If I come up with a good answer and the outfit holds up a good portion of the day then I think “This is a good outfit post”. Every once in awhile I think “Hmmmm…..people might not want to see this outfit”. And I think that since delving more into “fashion” blogging it has forced me to get even more creative with my dress and to think outside of the box and I like that.

4. Do professionals you interact with ever make comments about your clothing choices?

Again I don’t interact with many professionals. But my husband usually does say something. Most of the time its ‘Wow babe! Great job!’ sometimes its ‘I don’t understand it’ or occasionally its ‘Those look like old lady pants’. But here’s the thing…I dress him so I don’t take much stock in his “fashionable” opinions.

5. Some bloggers openly admit to wearing outfits only for the blog post. What’s your opinion on that?

Eh, it depends. If they do it all the time then I don’t like it. Every once in awhile for “inspirational” purposes its ok. I like the new boom of fashion bloggers because I like seeing bloggers translate the runway to the streets (or in my case My Gym & Playdates) if they are only doing it for the blog then its nothing more then some editorial layout right?
